  • The pattern is copied on a photoresist, then exposed to ultraviolet radiation while remaining over the stacked wafer. The developer is used to clean the exposed area of the photoresist resist, and the semiconducting layers are used to enclose the unexposed area.
  • In another high-temperature vacuum-sealed container, contact metals are spread and filled in the exposed area. The photoresist can then be cleaned with acetone once the contact metal adheres to the exposed portion of the semiconductor wafer.
  • Metal connections will be present on the semiconductor wafer as a result of this. An additional layer of metal is placed to the backside of the wafers according to the LED’s final mounting configuration.
  • The deposited metal goes through an annealing process. The wafer is heated in a furnace for several hours with hydrogen or nitrogen flowing over it, strengthening the metal-to-semiconductor bond.
  • A similar pattern will be repeated up to 6000 times on a single 2-inch wafer created in this fashion, giving an estimate of the size of the finished diodes.
