The need for bathroom fixtures and fittings is driven by population increase and rising living standards. These products are in high demand, both new and replacement, and their rise is tied to the construction of residential, commercial, and office buildings. A rise in personal disposable income, rising urbanisation, potential expansion in the real estate sector, rise in the hotel business, and improving consumer awareness of new bath accessories have all contributed to the market’s growth in India.
In the country, the construction industry is expanding at a rapid pace. As a result, these goods have potential. It is proposed that beautiful and modular designs of new fittings and fixtures, functional reliability components with precision, and good décor be developed and produced.
India is the world’s second-most populous country. The top three domestic businesses are HSIL, Cera, and Parry ware Roca, with other organised companies accounting for roughly 60% of the market and the unorganised sector accounting for 40%. India has the lowest sanitation level in Asia, with only 32.7 per cent of the rural population having basic sanitation facilities, according to the 2011 Census of India.
According to the Ministry of Rural Development, 17 per cent of recognised slums lack appropriate sanitation, while the average for non-notified slums is around 50%. To improve India’s sanitation, the state and national governments have launched projects such as the National Rural Water Drinking Program and Swatch Bharat Abhiyaan, which have financial allocations of Rs 50 billion and Rs 130 billion, respectively.
As a result, there is increased demand for sanitary products, which comes from the following sources:
The emergence of concept bathrooms, which feature designer sanitary ware, faucets, tiles, and high-tech power solutions, among other things.
Foreign players are becoming more prevalent: At first, domestic players dominated the market in this area. On the other hand, foreign players are rising in popularity as more and more buyers want to buy imported goods. There have been some collaborations between foreign and domestic companies in this segment. (PwC)
Due to increased spending power and increased environmental awareness, Indian customers steadily acquire more expensive and high-tech products for their bathrooms. Customers gravitate toward eco-friendly sanitary ware and bathroom fittings that aid in water conservation. The premium sector is thought to account for 10% to 12% of the total market. (PwC)
In 2020, the market value of bathroom fittings was expected to reach almost USD 467 million. The industry can also return to the scene in the years 2021-2026 when they will have a CAGR of 6.4 per cent to reach USD 677 million by 2026, which will assist in boosting the fittings market growth. Knowing market share allows you to assess the size and competitiveness of your competitors during the previous year. It exposes market characteristics such as accumulation, domination, and amalgamation.
Bathroom fittings and fixtures are required in every home and commercial structure. Faucets, Showerheads, and Fixtures have functional designs with current artistic décor and visually pleasing designs in various sizes, shapes, and ornamental features. These items are manufactured with different surface coatings and plating to reach the end designs and their functional reliability of operation. The restroom fixtures and fittings are steel, stainless steel, extruded aluminium brass pipes, rods, and sections. At the same time, faucets, cocks, and taps are made of gravity die-cast brass, bronze, zinc, magnesium aluminium, and other alloys.

Because concept washrooms are becoming more popular, some manufacturers offer a one-stop-shop solution for all sanitary ware and fittings needs. Furthermore, since the importance of in-store experience has grown, manufacturers are opening experience centres where clients may view a virtual version of the bathroom after it has been completely renovated. The increasing number of these experience centres is a critical factor persuading customers to spend on high-end bathroom items, bolstering the growth of the Indian tile, sanitary ware, and bathroom fittings market.
The Indian government’s increase in the budget for drinking water and sanitation projects, such as the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, has accelerated the building of toilets in rural areas. The country’s demand for tiles, sanitary products, and bathroom fittings has increased due to the execution of the plan mentioned above.
Nanotechnology has transformed the industry since it extends the shelf life of tiles while also making them resistant to dirt and bacteria. These tiles are currently gaining popularity in places where hygiene is critical, such as clinics, hospitals, labs, and food processing factories. Furthermore, they are becoming a fashion statement for consumers, boosting their domestic uses.
After experiencing a recession in recent years, India’s real estate market is seeing a resurgence. Improved buyer optimism, limited new launches, better sales, reducing unsold units, and consolidation in the Indian real estate market are driving this comeback. Furthermore, macro factors such as urbanisation, the nuclear family model, low per capita consumption, rising disposable incomes, and the government’s push for housing for everyone, smart cities, and sanitation improvements are projected to propel this market.
Brass, a copper alloy, is the most widely used raw material for faucets and showerheads but can also utilise other natural materials such as aluminium and zinc alloy. Because of its corrosion resistance, brass is employed. Regarding the fitting used for manufacture, brass is received as 0.33-0.5 mm diameter bar stock. The majority of the other products arrive as finished goods manufactured of metals or ceramics from other companies.
Fabrication of fittings and fixtures will necessitate pipes, rods, and sections made of aluminium, stainless steel, carbon steel, brass, and other metals. Paints, plating, and polishing chemicals are necessary for a decorative finish. Mould release agents, lubricants, die coating, fluxes, ladle coatings, and other die casting consumables may also be required.

CORE SHOOTER:
A core is used in the casting and moulding process to create interior voids and entrant angles. The centre is usually a one-time use component discarded following the die casting process. In this procedure, 99 per cent pure quartz sand is injected into the machine with possible binders such as synthetic oil at 8 bar pressure into the mould cavity with sufficient ventilation at 214-300°C. The mould is opened when the set period has passed, and the core is dropped onto the conveyance belt. This provides excellent surface texture, muscular strength, and superb dimensional precision. This extra sand, removed after heat treatment, can be recycled.
A sand core is manually put in the mould cavity in the dies to prevent oxidation, and the brass alloy is melted at 1150 0 C in an induction furnace. Automatically, molten metal is injected into the hole, and the cooling process takes only seconds. The cast product is forwarded for further processing when the die is separated.
The cast material is placed inside a shot peening machine, which cleans the cast core and surface by imparting a spherical steel ball without deforming or defecting the cast.
After shot peening, the cast material is submitted to CNC machining for dimensional accuracy, including boring, threading, and acceptable drilling. A higher degree of smoothness is ensured on the surface for further processing.
Only polished brass is submitted to the electroplating process; grinding and polishing are done manually and through a machine. Very experienced craftsmen are used for a high polish since they know how much load to apply for a precise finish. It is then polished with diamond paste on a cotton wheel at the desired speed. Then it’s physically evaluated with the naked eye to see if there are any flaws, and if there are, it return for adjustments.
The electroplating process involves immersing the anode (component) and cathode (cathode) in an electrolyte solution at an appropriate temperature and flowing current through it, resulting in the transfer or deposition of metal ions on the cathode surface. The metal product is electroplated in two phases, nickel with a thickness of around 12.3 m put in the first phase and the second chromium with a thickness of 0.25 m to avoid corrosion.
First, the electrolyte in nickel plating is made up of Nickel Sulphate, Nickel Chloride, and Boric Acid. Nickel chloride is used to improve anode corrosion and coat thickness uniformity. Boric acid is used as a buffer to raise the pH of a solution. The temperature is kept between 44 and 66°C, agitation is done by air or mechanical methods, the anode is nickel, and the pH is kept between 2 and 4.5. Chrome plating is done with an electrolyte of chromium sulphate and sulphuric acid at a temperature of 35-45°C, with a lead anode.
Technicians assemble ceramic discs, cartridges, and other components separately. The inspection is carried out to detect any leaks using leak testing equipment that applies a 2 bar pressure of water to the fitting. Finally, a laser branding machine imprints the company logo on the component.
The unit will require highly trained personnel. The team can start with 14 personnel and grow to 42 or more depending on business demand.
