Rice Bran Oil  Project Report and Business Plan

Rice bran oil is obtained through extraction from the germ and inner husk of rice.  A clinically notable component of rice bran oil is the antioxidant Y-oryzanol which was touted in Japan as an effective agent in relieving hot flashes and other symptoms of menopause.

Literature reviews indicate that rice bran oil and its active ingredients improve blood cholesterol by reducing total plasma cholesterol and triglycerides and increasing the ratio of HDL cholesterol.  Studies have established that even after heating to frying temperature, rice bran oil maintains antioxidant stability.

The oxidative stability of rice bran oil was comparable to or even higher than soybean, canola, corn, cottonseed and safflower oils in a standard test system that simulated deep frying temperatures.  Rice bran contains 17% oil by weight.  After the refining process, the refined rice bran oil contains only 12% of the rice bran raw material.

Rice oil, also known as rice bran oil, has been widely used in Asian countries such as Japan, China, Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, India, and Pakistan. It is the recommended oil in Japan for its vibrant taste and smell.

Rice oil is a minor component of raw rice in addition to carbohydrates and proteins that are present in high amounts. Two major categories of lipids are observed.  They are present inside the endosperm and internally related to the bran. Intrinsic lipids account for the functional, nutritional and sensory properties of rice.

Rice bran is the main raw material for extracting rice bran oil. Most of the available bran is used as animal feed without oil processing.  The food industry uses frozen rice bran to source dietary fibre and protein with the desired oil.

Rice Bran Oil Manufacturing Business Market Potential

Among the unconventional sources, rice bran is a rich and vital source of edible oil. Rice bran is the white starchy brown coating present on the rice kernel, which is obtained after peeling the paddy and polishing the rice. Rice bran technology may have become famous in the country, but only a third is being used. About 80 million tonnes of paddy is produced in India every year.

With this, more than 5 million tonnes of rice bran will be available in which about 8 lakh tonnes of rice bran oil will be available. In the year 1983–84, the country consumed only 1.3 million tonnes of rice bran, although the processing area is around 32 million tonnes. Rice bran oil extraction is currently estimated to be around 2 lakh tonnes, with only 10-15% of it being edible.

Approximately 70% of paddy agriculture in India is done with huller millers, with the remainder processed with sophisticated sheller mills. This is the reason for the difference in production and availability of oil.

Huller mills are more numerous (80,000), but newer sheller mills are just 28,000 in number. Therefore, conversion of huller mills to modern sheller mills is a problem and is under process. If the existing huller mills for processing rice bran are modernised, the gap will be reduced.

Uses of Rice Bran Oil

Rice bran oil is rich in saturated, MUFA (monounsaturated fatty acids), and PUFA (polyunsaturated fatty acids) and is even recommended by the WHO and the popular AHA (American Heart Association). It is also a fact that rice bran oil lowers low-density lipoprotein (cholesterol) levels without lowering high-density lipoprotein (HDL).

The manufacturing process of Rice Bran Oil in India

Rice bran oil is produced using chemical solvents or through the pressing process. We recommend a small capacity rice bran oil guide and the pressing method in this case. while larger capacity units use the solvent forming technique. We must point out that the hot extraction method will provide higher quality and higher yield than the cold pressing method. When rice bran oil production is referred to, the following three steps are necessary, i.e. raw material preparation, bran oil extraction, and the last one being crude oil refining.

Rice Bran Raw Material Preparation:

The raw material is thoroughly prepared before the oil is extracted from the rice bran. Rice bran is primarily screened and subsequently heated using steam to a temperature over 100 °C to prevent lipase hydrolysis in rice bran before extraction.

Rice Bran Oil Extraction:

You can extract crude rice bran oil using a solvent in a chemical method or with an oil press in a mechanical way. After proper processing, the bran is fully stabilised thanks to the extraction process where the oil is extracted, yielding two products, high-quality raw rice bran oil and fat-free rice bran.

Rice Bran Oil Refining:

Crude rice bran oil is then processed in a refining process, which strips away most of the free fatty acids and produces an oil that is suitable for a variety of animal or agricultural uses. Edible oil bleaching shows traces of minor taste and odour compounds that must be separated using steam distillation before packaging. Some call for de-waxed oil, and therefore a de-waxing process is done before distillation.

Steam distillation is the final step in the edible oil process, and it removes leftover flavour and residual free fatty acids. Once the oil is processed, it is now sent for packaging in retail bottles, bulk drums etc., as per the manufacturer’s decision.

Conclusion of Rice Bran Oil Manufacturing

Rice bran oil offers many benefits and is an excellent choice for gaining nutrition. The oil contains vitamins such as B and E, proteins, fatty acids, antioxidants, collagen, elastin, oryzanol and ferulic acid.  Antioxidants and Vitamin E are good for the heart as they reduce the amount of bad cholesterol and prevent cardiac arrest.  Compounds such as oryzanol and ferulic acid are used as functional food supply ingredients.  Apart from these benefits, the consumption of rice bran oil maintains the immune system, aids in weight loss, prevent diseases like cancer, relieves symptoms of menopause and enhances skin health.

These advantages motivate capitalists to venture into rice bran oil manufacturing and thus can supply cooking oil and various other essential products that require rice bran oil as a component of it.  Is.  It is also considered the most useful vegetable oil, which offers many benefits over other standard vegetable oil.  Although it is classified as an “oil”, rice bran oil is completely safe for consumption by patients with heart problems, diabetes, cholesterol, or high blood pressure.

Because of all these benefits, you can expect good profits in the Rice Bran Oil Making Business.  So, you can start the business by considering all these points, as it is a profitable venture for the entrepreneurs who are thinking of starting an oil milling business.
