Raw Material 

The peas are key raw materials used in Dal mills, which are buted directly from farmers and the packing material needed to package the finished product.

Manufacturing Process

The raw material that differs based on the type of dal, like chickpea in chana dal, is purchased from a vendor or farmer and held in a raw material warehouse according to production needs.

According to the type of dal to be made, the right pea is taken from the storehouse into the milling plant. These peas are then fed to a water-filled soaking tank, where they are left to soak for a long time, usually close to 24 hours for many days.

After the peas have been properly soaked, a bucket elevator transports them from the soaking tank to air dryers with blowers or to a terrace for sun drying, where workers spread the peas out as needed.

The dried peas are fed into a Reel Machine with the suitable grit size, removing significant extraneous particles such as other peas, twigs, and leaves.

These peas are then fed to an emery roll dehusker, which removes the peas’ husk or peel, yielding the whole dal. The entire dal is sent into another reel machine with a finer grit size to remove the husk and other tiny impurities.

This whole dal is now fed to a lentil splitting machine, which simply shears the whole dal into two halves, yielding the dal. This dal is then fed to a dal polisher, which simply polishes the dal and improves its appearance, after which these dals are collected in bins, packed in sacks, and sent for sale.

Note: As long as the equipment can accept a range of variation, all dals with similar sized peas can be processed in the same unit.
